According to the U.S. Dept of Health & Human Services, about 70% of individuals over age 65 will require at least some type of long-term care services during their lifetimes.

Consumer surveys have revealed some common misunderstandings people have about which public programs pay for long-term care services. Many people believe they can rely on Medicare to pay for any long-term care services they will need. However, Medicare only pays for long term care if you require skilled services or recuperative care for a short period of time.

If you are planning on utilizing Medicaid for your Long Term care needs, you may be sent to a facility out of the city in which you reside, that accepts Medicaid payment, + you must spend down your assets to $2,000.00(excluding house, care or burial fund) Medicaid can "look back," through five years of your financial transactions in order to be sure that you have not transferred assets to someone else's name.
